    Description

    Offering a
    vintage and super-rare 1920's-30's era
    "Chau-Phone" or Chauffeur Microphone
, which would have been part of a limousine communication system between the passenger and driver. These were likely built for "Dictaphone" recorders, custom adapted as an accessory for high-end autos like LaSalle, Pierce Arrow, Duesenberg, and various limos. The passenger had a mic and speaker, and could bark instructions to the driver who, or course, only had a speaker on their end...no microphone to respond. The mic features a push-to-talk button which was worn out, so has been bypassed making the mic live all the time. The
    original pickup still functions
, but slightly reduced output volume, and will work with any modern amplifier, no external power needed. This piece is quite stylish and well-built, an
art deco style metal nickel casing and handle
with flourishing around the edges of the face plate.
A new 6' cable has been wired with 1/4" male phono plug.
This is a very cool piece of early voice communication history, and very tough to find, especially in this good condition! (It's the only one I have ever seen like this.) Measures 6.5" long by 2" in diameter.
