The VOX Continental 73 BK is a stage keyboard that combines the four most essential keyboard parts: PIANO, E.PIANO, ORGAN, and KEY/LEYER (brass, strings, etc.) in one unit.
All tones have been carefully selected for their "usability. The control system is also designed around the four parts, so you will never feel lost when you first pick it up. With master effects, EQ, and valve drive using Nutube tubes, this single unit can handle a wide variety of musical genres.
The slim and compact body is lightweight, while the robust metal construction and light-touch waterfall keyboard make it easy to play. The slim, compact body is lightweight and easy to carry, making it the perfect companion for keyboardists everywhere.
Four independent tone parts for instant access to the sound you want to use
E.PIANO, PIANO, KEY/LAYER, and ORGAN parts can be easily switched by selecting the one you want to use now with the part select button. The main unit panel has separate controls for each part, allowing you to select variations, set levels, etc. The settings for these four parts can be combined into a single scene. The settings for these four parts are saved together in a single scene. Two parts can be layered by pressing two part select buttons at the same time.
E.PIANO part
Three sound categories are provided. TINE, the most representative elepi-electric sound; REED, used in many famous songs along with TINE; FM, characterized by the metallic sound heard in the 80's sound; and E.PIANO, a realistically reproduced sound source model, amp and cabinet modeling, and carefully crafted FM with rich harmonic overtones. PIANO part
Three sound categories are provided: GRAND, which samples a high-end grand piano, UPRIGHT, which is easy to use for pop music, and E.GRAND, which is well-known for its 70's sound. GRAND and UPRIGHT are richly loaded with stereo large-volume, all-key, non-looping samples to reproduce a delicate yet powerful piano sound.
KEY/LAYER part
Each of the six categories, KEY (clavinet, pipe organ, etc.), BRASS (brass, woodwind), STRINGS (strings, choir), LEAD, SYNTH and OTHER, contains sounds other than organ, piano and electric piano. The ORGAN part can also be used for layering with other parts such as the piano, allowing a wide range of genres to be covered by this single unit.
ORGAN Part
Three different sound engines are included. The CX-3 tonewheel organ sound engine, which is suitable for any genre from rock to pop, is modeled after the Korg CX-3 combo organ. The VOX transistor organ sound engine, with its distinctive high notes, faithfully reproduces the VOX organ. The transistor organ sound source COMPACT, with its distinctive cheap sound, reproduces a small organ from the same era as the VOX organ. These tones can be operated with the "touch control," which is operated with the finger like a drawbar, to control harmonies and tones.
In addition, the CX-3 and VOX can switch between upper (upper keyboard) and lower (lower keyboard) keys and split at the touch of a button. By connecting an external MIDI keyboard, the CX-3 and VOX can be played as a two-stage keyboard, with the main unit as the upper keyboard and the external MIDI keyboard as the lower keyboard. Of course, vibrato, chorus, and rotary speaker simulation can be used, and the speed of the rotary speaker effect can be switched by using the bend lever next to the keyboard while playing.
Intuitive touch control of drawbars and EQ
The nine-row LED display on the left side of the panel not only provides an at-a-glance view of settings, but also provides finger-touch controls. The touch sensor provides three selectable controls: ORGAN, which functions primarily as a drawbar for the core of the sound; KEY/LAYER, which sets the filter and EG; and EQ, which provides a 9-band balance for the overall sound.
Real tube sound with Nutube
Nutube is a tube distortion that goes very well with organ and electric piano. The valve drive using Nutube, a new vacuum tube developed by Korg, produces rich overtones, smooth distortion, and warm tube sound that cannot be achieved by modeling. This valve drive can be turned on and off with a dedicated button. The effect can be set precisely with the knob, and the brightness of the LEDs illuminating the Nutube can be used to visually confirm the effect.
What is Nutube?
Nutube is a new vacuum tube jointly developed by Korg and Noritake Ise Electronics. Like conventional vacuum tubes, it has an anode-grid-filament structure and operates as a complete triode vacuum tube, and like conventional vacuum tubes, it produces rich overtones characteristic of vacuum tubes. By applying Noritake Ise Denshi's fluorescent display tube technology, we have devised its structure and succeeded in significantly reducing power consumption, reducing size, and improving quality compared to conventional vacuum tubes.
Dynamics knob for personalized adjustment of keystroke and pronunciation balance
The balance between keystroke and pronunciation determines how a keyboard instrument responds to playing. Jazz requires a delicate touch and expressiveness, while rock requires strong keystrokes and high volume, and there is a wide range of musical genres that require different preferences. The dynamics knob allows for more fine-tuned control of volume and timbre changes in response to the strength of the keystrokes. Turning the knob to the left produces a wide range of intonation with full velocity, while turning it to the right produces a uniformly strong sound regardless of keystroke strength, making it easy to achieve the desired settings according to your playing style.
Light-touch and lightweight waterfall keyboard
The waterfall keyboard has a light touch that is ideal for glissandos. This keyboard is also semi-weighted, providing a weight that is comfortable for playing the piano or electric piano. The keyboard and lightweight design of the body also make it possible to reduce the weight of the main unit to 8.4 kg (excluding the attached wooden sideboard), less than 10 kg for a 73-key stage keyboard, making it easy to carry in the optional soft case (SC-Continental 73).
Scene memory for saving your favorite settings
64 settings (4 scenes x 4 banks x 4 banks) of 4-part tone combinations, master effects, EQ, and other settings can be stored as scenes. Scenes can be easily recalled by pressing the buttons on the underside of the touch control. In addition, up to 100 sets of scenes can be saved and loaded by connecting a commercially available USB flash drive to the USB port on the back of the unit, so you can recreate the same settings as usual by simply bringing the USB flash drive to the place where you will be playing.
Master Effects that integrate the entire sound
The first stage is an insert type that can be inserted into the master, with a choice of six types ranging from chorus and phaser to WAH. On/off and simple parameter adjustments are also possible.
The second delay and reverb stage is sent from the master, with four types of delay and five types of reverb to choose from. The third stage has a 9-band EQ that is controlled by a touch controller, and the last stage has a valve drive circuit using Nutubes, and all these settings can be saved in scene memory.
VOX V861 with specially designed pedal
A volume/expression pedal (V861) specially designed for this keyboard is included. The V861 has a compact and sturdy aluminum chassis with a premium black anodized finish, and features two INPUT/OUTPUT jacks and one EXPRESSION jack for volume and wah control.
Leather black body with wooden side panels for a vintage look
The dark brown wooden side panels are included to match the leather black body, which looks great on any stage. You can customize it by attaching it to the body according to your preference. The body is made of lightweight aluminum. The slim and compact design offers excellent durability and portability.
